Orfanato en Tanzania

Construction of an orphanage in Ilembula and maintenance of the Tumani orphanage.

ORPHANAGE IN ILEMBULA, TANZANIA 2013 AND MAINTENANCE TO DATE

Two counselors visited Tanzania in 2011 and agreed with Father Tarcisio Moreschi to build an orphanage in ILEMBULA. Construction began in 2011 and the last payment for finishes was in September 2013. The final cost was 179,959 euros, and the orphanage was inaugurated on May 8, 2013 in the presence of President Viviana Grandi and Silvia Scalisi. Since January 1, 2015, it is supported by a quarterly payment of €15,000. In October 2015, the FRG funded the construction of a multipurpose room with €15,300. In 2022, the FRG sent used games donated by various Ticino municipalities to the orphan center. In 2024, the purchase of a used Toyota was financed for 37,000 euros for the children’s transportation to school and other expenses.

The meeting with Don Tarcisio made us aware of the problem and, with all our hearts, we decided to help him build an orphanage for 100 children in Ilembula, one of the villages that are part of his parish.

The orphanage is an open place, composed of ten typical Tanzanian houses, of different colors and personalized, and a dining room. In each house, 10 children live together with a responsible person who fulfills the role of “mother”. 1,200 children have lived in the orphanage.

Since 2015 it has been supported with a quarterly contribution of €15,000.

In 2022, the FRG sends used games, donated by several municipalities in the canton of Ticino, to the orphans’ center.

In 2024, the purchase of a second-hand Toyota car, to take children to school and for other expenses, is financed at a price of 37,000 euros.

In October 2024 a mission of Silvia Scalisi to the orphanage is approved, where she notes the excellent management by the responsible Francesca Filisetti and the excellent conditions of the children; the buildings, however, need maintenance on doors and windows, and in 2025 the amount of 3,797.20 euros is financed.

TUMAINI ORPHANAGE IN TANZANIA, MAINTENANCE SINCE 2017.

In 2016, Father Tarcisio and Fausta requested support for the upkeep of another orphanage run by nuns in Tanzania, built in 2003. A monthly payment of €1,000 was approved from January 2017 with quarterly payments of €3,000.

As of March 1, 2025, it was decided, due to lack of funds, to reduce Tumaini’s support to 500 euros per month.
